I had the opportunity to spend some time with my sister and nephew. We decided to go and try out Dear Coco in Spokane, Washington. Celeste Shaw is the owner, she also owns Chaps near Cheney, Washington. A few years ago, I tried Chaps for the first time. The cookies were delicious, which resulted in continued visits and opportunities to try other items. There are various baked goods (but go early) and breakfast (which is huge!). I was super excited when I learned Celeste had created another spot much closer to where I am living and in a building that is super cool! The experience and food I had at Chaps was the primary reason I even considered trying out Cafe Coco.

I don’t know about you, but making and drinking coffee is an experience for me. A large part of my experience are the people I share it with and the feelings that accompany it. As I walked in the door of dear Coco, I had a feeling of calmness, community and home. Looking around, there were gathering areas, such as sofas, chairs, benches, etc. As we looked for a place to sit, the smell of fresh ground coffee became stronger as I continued walking back towards the counter to read the menu. My excitement was building in anticipation of seeing what yummy pastries might be available for my consumption! I chose the croissant with chocolate mousse. It was so delicious as the croissant had a thin layer of sugar and it all melted in my mouth. I was undecided about what I would choose for my beverage. There were espressos (which my nephew chose), latte’s of various flavors, drip coffee, and many other choices. I finally decided on the special of the day. It had just enough caramel to add great flavor, but not enough to make it too sweet. I purchased the Guinness chips because I was curious to taste this the combination of Guinness (which is my all time favorite beer) and Burt’s chips. I like to have snacks around to keep the hangries away and I always want to try unique foods. Additionally, they advertise there’s no MSG, artificial flavors or colors and no hydrogenated or trans fats….bonus! My sister and nephew had the quiche which was very good. I can say that for sure, because I snuck a couple of bites! There are also various gift items that can be perused and purchased.

If you are looking for a warm comfortable place to connect that’s unique, with great food and beverages, add this one to your list!
